The term ‘Turing tarpit’ (or tar-pit) was coined by the American computer scientist Alan Perlis (1922–1990) in 1982. It is a term for a computer interface or programming language that is flexible in the facilities provided, but is hard to learn in general due to the lack of support for its more widely used features. Every semester, the department of computer science holds an exclusive recruiting event where they invite high-achieving students to talk with their industry partners.
